1

Initial Situation

ALUCOBOND® is a leading manufacturer of high-quality facade solutions, including aluminum composite panels and the corresponding mounting systems. Architects and planners are supported by ALUCOBOND® throughout the entire process — from the first design idea to final implementation.

For the design of facade panels, ALUCOBOND® offers unique shape and color concepts that can be explored interactively with the ALUCOBOND® Facademaker. We are proud to have developed this application for ALUCOBOND®, which has been used by more than 30,000 customers since its launch and has received multiple design awards.

To complement this, ALUCOBOND® wanted to provide its customers with another tool — one that helps them find the right mounting system for their creative vision. Simple, intuitive, and visually outstanding.

The challenge

Not every mounting system is compatible with every facade panel configuration. Architects and planners are often unaware of this and must later adapt their design vision to technical feasibility. Avoiding this usually requires numerous coordination rounds — costing both time and money.

ALUCOBOND® approached us with this challenge: to develop a free web application that offers the same high visual quality as the ALUCOBOND® Facademaker, while helping users find the technically suitable system for their design from the very beginning.

2

CoCreation Day as the foundation of the application

To tackle the challenge, we began with a one-day CoCreation Day together with the ALUCOBOND® team. During this workshop, the key functional requirements were gathered and prioritized.

The day provided not only the foundation for a realistic effort estimate but also a clear roadmap: Which features are essential for launch? Which can follow in a second phase? And how can users be guided in the best possible way to quickly and intuitively find the right system?

In addition, the CoCreation Day helped everyone involved build a shared understanding of the overall project and the specific demands of software development. This allowed us to close potential gaps early on and ensure that the final application not only works technically but also meets ALUCOBOND®’s high visual and design standards.

“At the heart of ALUCOBOND® Systemfinder is the vision of architects and planners.”

Our solution

Instead of overwhelming users with technical data sheets, the Systemfinder guides them through an intuitive design dialogue. Step by step, architects and planners make their choices while the system automatically determines the most suitable setup in the background.

In the user story map, we defined the initial decision points together with ALUCOBOND®:

1. Building height
2. Panel size
3. Layout (horizontal or vertical panels)
4. Fastening (visible or concealed)
5. Material and surface color
6. Corner symmetry
7. Corner formation (open or curved)

4

We took that literally and made it the core of the user experience.

At each step, the building model automatically zooms to the area where the decision is being made: sometimes showing the full height in the context of its surroundings, sometimes moving the camera directly to the facade, and sometimes zooming in close to the corner.

Architects and planners experience how their vision takes shape — clear, comprehensible, and visually striking.

5

More visual focus, less distraction

The immersive experience of the ALUCOBOND® Systemfinder is driven by an interface that intentionally takes a step back. Through the use of glasmorphism, the UI and visualization merge, allowing users to remain continuously immersed in the building model.

The signature look

The surrounding environment follows the same principle: glass-like silhouettes and minimal forms provide visual depth without distraction. The result is a distinctive style that keeps the building consistently at the center of attention.

Our Insight

Design studies with architects confirmed: neither the interface nor the environment should distract users from their main task — designing the facade.
